“His heart is bigger than his little body”

A child with special needs
from multiple food allergies reaches out at age 4 ½ to help other children with disabilities. One morning Weston was watching an educational program about children with severe disabilities. A certain story about a 5 year old boy who needed complicated heart surgery touched him the most. The boy’s parents were unable to pay for the abundant medical care costs he needed. After the show was over Weston turned to me with falling tears of concern and said, “Mom please help him.” I explained to him that the little boy was already saved and doing fine. I told him that family and friends, neighbors an strangers all came together to raise money and saved this beautiful boys life. The child’s medical story left a lasting impression on Weston. In the weeks to fallow Weston constantly made comments to us about how important it was to donate money to kids who need help. He would say, “ If you can buy groceries you can give money. If you can buy gas you can give money.” Weston bombarded us with reminders on a daily basis. After about two weeks of Weston’s persistence I said, “OK, what are you going to do about it?” And he replied, “Fix them.” I said, “ How are you going to do that?” And he replied, “I’ll give them my money and my birthday money too.” I said, “OK” and Weston replied, “ You mean I can fix a kid,” and the seed was planted.

Weston raised $500 at his 5th birthday and over $5000 on his 7th birthday. The money raised went to the Children With Special Health Care Needs Clinic at Danbury Hospital in Ct. Weston is a beautiful and caring child that believes everyone deserves a fair chance in life. He understands the pain and suffering of others threw his own invisible disability. Weston has inspired his whole family to be to be active in his charity. He wants children of all ages to know that it does matter how small or young you are, that you yourself can help make a difference for others. “His heart is bigger than his little body.”
